Cramond & Barnton Community Council

Cramond & Barnton Community Council covers the areas of Cramond, Barnton, Cammo and Davidsons Mains (west of Cramond Road North and Quality Street)

Meetings held: Third Thursday of the month except July, August and December
Time of Meeting: 7.30pm
Meeting Place: Millennium Room, Cramond Kirk Halls, Cramond Glebe Road, Cramond

Purpose of a Community Council: To ascertain, co-ordinate and express the views of the residents and to inform the residents of issues.

The Community Council is pro-active in establishing the views of the residents on relevant local issues by means of meetings, questionnaires and door-to-door surveys, as appropriate.   Also, the Community Council receives and responds to consultations ranging from planning matters to NHS issues.

Meetings: Cramond & Barnton Community Council generally invites a speaker to its meetings to inform and allow residents to discuss issues relating to the environment, planning, Airport, roads, etc.

Minutes of the Meetings:  The approved Minutes and other information, including the Secretary’s report, are displayed on local notice boards at Cramond and Barnton and at Blackhall Library and are up-loaded onto the Community Council’s website.  The website includes the facility whereby friends of the Community Council can apply to receive e-mail alerts when new documents are uploaded.

Planning Applications:  The Community Council reviews current planning applications and, where appropriate, may notify and consult residents, apply for consultee status, hold public meetings, attend site visits, and make submissions to the City Council.

Information:  Relevant information sent to the Community Council is placed on the local notice boards and made available at public meetings for residents to read and request copies.  Information acquired by e-mail may be passed on to residents who wish to be included in the Community Council’s e-mailing list.

Legal Data:  Community Council meetings must be held in public a minimum of seven times per year and the Community Council is required to publish and display its minutes.  Community Council members must adhere to the City of Edinburgh Council’s Code of Conduct.  The Community Council has a legal status to comment on planning issues and licensing matters.
